[Opening Music] CAS: Hey, KARIE: Hey guys. Welcome back. JILL: Hi. KARIE: Have a seat. Well, I'm excited to hear how it went. Tell me all about it. JILL: I took my notes. KARIE: Great. That's Awesome. JILL: So Josh taught us about Tai Chi and I had never done that before. KARIE: Mm-hmm. JILL: So that was fun. He talked to us about the importance of trying to move 30 minutes, uh, each day. KARIE: Mm-hmm. JILL: Which was nice. Um, he taught us about different types of exercise, so cardio and strength training and flexibility and balance. Um, he encouraged us to talk to our doctor before we start an exercise regimen. KARIE: Mm-hmm. JILL: Um, we can, um, review medications, um, to be aware if, if there's any particular medications that may make us go high or may make us low, especially during, uh, particularly active times. KARIE: Yeah. JILL: And he encouraged us to test often. KARIE: Great, great. CAS: Speaking of testing, I- I took notes too. Um, we talked with Dr. Jen about blood sugar and how to test for it. KARIE: Mm-hmm. CAS: So, um, there's three big types of testing. There's the A1C test, there is, um, the glucometer and CGMs. KARIE: Mm-hmm. CAS: And then talk about what it means to stay in range. So if you, as long as you're, is like the goal to like zone, as long as you stay in that zone, you're good. If you go too high or too low, you have to work to bring yourself back to normal or seek professional help as soon as you can. And also, I got to learn how to use a glucometer. KARIE: Nice. That's great. JILL: And I learned more about how to use and interpret data from my CGM. KARIE: That's great. So two different options, both to do monitoring, so that's great. I'm glad you got to both experience part of that. So our next step is goal setting, and we wanna focus on goals that can help you all continue to progress in your- your journey and your diabetes management. So, a couple of things to keep in mind about goal setting is that we wanna be sure our goals are, um, easy for you to attain. We don't wanna set a goal that's not attainable because that will just lead you to be discouraged. We also wanna be sure that that's a goal that you've set and that it's personalized to you. So I could set you a goal, but that's my goal and not yours. KARIE: You'll have a lot more success if you come up with your own goal. And then thirdly, you wanna be sure we're building on your strengths. So you guys have already learned a lot, and you already learned a lot in your personal journey as well as this education. So making sure that you're building on your strengths and what you already have going for you. So I want you to keep in mind the things that you've learned through monitoring and through movement, and maybe even medications and focus on goals that you can be working on over this next week. Specific to those. So Jill, what, what do you think you would like to have as your goals for this next week? JILL: Well, I jotted down a couple ideas KARIE: Okay. JILL: That I'd like to run past you. KARIE: Yeah. JILL: Um, I am thinking walking five minutes after each meal KARIE: Okay. JILL: Might be away to incorporate, uh, some movement. KARIE: Mm-hmm. JILL: Get me toward my 30 minutes a day. Okay. Um, make sure I'm monitoring my CGM and make sure I am taking my medications correctly. So I'm gonna go home and reread those labels to make sure I'm taking them as prescribed. KARIE: Great. Okay. That sounds like a great start. JILL: Thank you. KARIE: All right. How about you, Cas? CAS: All right. So I've been thinking too, and one of my goals is to, um, add activity to my day. KARIE: Mm-hmm. CAS: Um, so parking further away, taking the stairs, instead of taking the elevator, and even, you know, actually going grocery shopping rather than, um, doing pickup or delivery. KARIE: Yeah. Yeah. CAS: Um, and then in terms of my blood sugar and medications, since I use my phone for everything KARIE: Mm-hmm. CAS: Use it for this. KARIE: Mm-hmm. CAS: So, um, programming and finding apps that will help me monitor my blood sugar as well as, um, monitor my medications and remind me to check my sugar, check my medications, um, and make sure I'm doing everything as right. KARIE: Okay. Great. That sounds like a great start. So what I wanna encourage you to do is to write those goals down. We'll have a lot more success if we're, we're writing them down, we're tracking that kind of, so we can compare. And when we meet next week, we're gonna talk about how did those goals go, you know, any, any barriers that you experienced, how your success was. So I just want you over this next week to write those goals down, focus on tracking them, and then we'll meet back here next week. JILL: Sounds Great. CAS: All right. JILL: Thanks Karie. KARIE: Thanks so much, guys. CAS: All right. Thank you. KARIE: See you. [Closing Music]
